I like him. Especially since Hank Stolz asked me what was going on way back in March and I in sleep-deprived state said he was having a vicious Mars opposition and every little thing he did was mud. At least that month. And that things would look up for him in April. Which they did! Score another for Symboline. july is his next tricky month but my experience (modest and frankly bizarre -- my father was a politico who came out for Ed King and had various patronage jobs in his post-newspaper days) is that the Statehouse is a relatively quiet place during the hot months, despite the building having some really wonderful naturally cool places due to smart architecture -- when, oh when did we forget to build smart? Anyway, quiet except for the scheming.
I always thought at some point I would work in politics, and I probably still will. State politics are fascinating, local politics even more so despite it being the one place where the rumor mill IS the news.
My favorite state house, and one you must visit if you are in Lincoln, Nebraska is a stellar example of smart New Deal/WPA construction. A marble palace -- "the prick on the plains," some of the franker 'huskers noted -- with the most amazing ventilation, stunning evolutionary mosaics on the floor (and various evangelicals not so far away), and filled, at least last June, with ruddy-faced fellows in short sleeved shirts and ladies with Done hair and practical shoes. I love the midwest. The longer I stay in New England, the more I miss the Midwest.

Every month I write the dark of the moon is the most dangerous time of the month -- accidents are more likely, and things that go badly, go very badly. It's been a fairly hideous news cycle and I really feel sorry for the students in Virginia. Every now and then our institutional problems and blind spots (not treating the mentally ill aggressively and compassionately, not having intelligent attitudes about firearms, an attitude which makes us unique among all developed nations, come together in a hideous cataclysm...

hey gang,
I couldn't tell you why/how but somehow a previous incarnation of sun signs got up on the site. I've sent the corrected version to web people and hopefully that's uploaded on Monday. For now, mea maxima culpa and I am completely confused. Not enough chocolate for me, I guess....

Dear Symboline
I'm perfectly willing to admit I could be touchier than usual but is everyone an idiot this month? -- Robyn
Dear Robyn
Here's the deal:
Mars in Aquarius square Venus means Mars and Venus are NOT happy with one another, making the Leo/Scorpio folks, or those with heavy influence in those signs more irritable. C'est la vie. Frankly, I'm not noticing more than the usual amount of slackage. When everyone else is an idiot, it usually means you're expecting them to do things you may as well do yourself.

I keep having to reorder calendars because, you know, people buy them and all that...Speaking of which, if you buy a calendar I'll throw in a sheet about how to THINK about those lunar phases that will make using the calendar as a text easier. Moon in Scorpio tomorrow so it's all "cut to the chase." Also, Hugh Norton of Norton Guitars is visiting and we hope he moves to this part of the world. He makes guitars where the body is more than one piece of wood. It's very spaceage looking but a traditional sound.
I'm someone who makes things out of pipecleaners and scotch tape....
Here's Hugh's guitars:

I have been using a ryder-waite deck that had always been in my room -- I mean, since childhood. I have no recollection of how it got there but it may have been a gift from the great Louis and Ruth Shepard. (Louis also gave me Edward Gorey's The Gilded Bat when I resumed dancing class at age 8, which was provocative and horrifying). I've been using those cards A LOT lately and may well put a marquee on the webpage because my dates at ROOTS are booked very early -- to the point where every time I go in I think, "I need to add another date."
Increased activity of all kinds are definitely linked to lunar phases and right now, with the equinox behind us and a Monday full moon in Libra, decisions may once come easily for Libra.
