Hi, how are you? Been quite a week, eh? So our time here at WFNX is coming to an end, what with the recent sale of the station to Clear Channel. But we’re told it’ll take a few weeks for the FCC to transfer the license, and WFNX has been gracious in letting BOSTON ACCENTS continue its run until the very end. So with that, here’s tonight’s playlist – shout out to RIBS for hanging in the studio and allowing us to world premiere their new EP, Russian Blood, which gets the record release party treatment this Friday May 25 at T.T. The Bear’s Place in Cambridge. We’ll see you again on Sunday night. Thanks for listening. Believe in Boston.
(Note: We recorded tonight’s show, and hope to post the mp3s to On The Download by Tuesday.)
RIBS “Please Don’t Go” – Fitting title, no? Off RIBS’s 2011 Locrian Singles.
YOUNG ADULTS “Born In ‘91” – New track from the Boston punk trio, released on cassingle. Catch YA at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston on May 30 with Speedy Ortiz, Arvid Noe, and Grass Is Green.
YOU CAN BE A WESLEY “Creatures” – Rumors persist that Thursday’s show at Great Scott might be YCBAW’s last. It will certainly be the last with this current lineup, so it’s fitting this goes down at Great Scott, where the Wesley’s hold the modern-day record for most live appearances, something like 23 or 24. Next closest: Earthquake Party.
PRETTY & NICE “Yonkers” – Sweet video for this one making the internet rounds.
World premiere of RIBS’s new EP, Russian Blood; out Tuesday, May 29, and Friday at TT The Bear’s. Get “Kiss” for free over at On The Download, as it’s our Mp3 of the Week:
1. “Mercury”
2. “Kiss”
3. “Gateway Drug”
4. “Alarms”
5. “Don’t Think”
6. “This Is Real”
7. “Destructo”
SUICIDE DOLLS “Drive” – Connecticut’s Suicide Dolls perform live with RIBS this Friday at T.T.'s.
EARTHQUAKE PARTY “Pretty Little Hand” – P Nick Curran’s Lototo Productions just released a sweet video for this song, which the Phoenix debuted last week.
PROTOKOLL “Moving Forward” – I hate playing favorites with Boston rock, but Protokoll, active around 2005ish and signed to Los Angeles' iheartcomix label, remain my favorite band of all time to come out of our awesome city. Here's a clip from their one-off (two-off?) reunion gig at Great Scott last April.
SOUTHERN BELLE “Walk On” – Selection from the RIBS dudes; Isom Innis now plays in Foster the People.
GENTLEMEN HALL “All Our Love” – Another pick from Camp RIBS, and good friends of the station. A recent Local Exposure artist.
GRAND RESORT “Night Is Dark” – Grand Resort’s Andres M. Pichardo now lives in Brooklyn, but went to school here in Boston and returns to the area Friday with a gig at the Pill at Great Scott.
HERRA TERRA “Hyperborea” – New track from Worcester electronic rock dudes.
GLASS TEETH “Dead Dreamer” – I tweeted earlier that one of the biggest bumouts of Boston Accents ending is not being able to play shit like Glass Teeth on the FM dial at a major-market radio station. On stage last Wednesday at the Middle East, Jimmy of Avoxblue gave us a shoutout and said he first heard Xavier’s Gath’s Glass Teeth on our show.
THE FAUX “Synthetic Hearts” – RIP Kirsten Malone.
ANDRE OBIN “A Star Is Torn” – Menancing track I released last month as a b-side to the “Valencia” 7-inch. Obin is currently headed east to Germany after a string of live dates in the Netherlands.
THE DECEMBER SOUND “Kill Me Before I Kill You” – Another appropriate title.
YALE MA “Danger City Population Me” – Yale playing next Sunday at O’Brien’s; added this last minute because they tweeted at @BostonAccentsMA asking for a spin.
PARLOUR BELLS “I’d Like To Think” – I thought these lyrics were perfect for tonight…
MEAN CREEK “The Comedian” -- … As well as these: “Took the one good thing that I found / And I put it in the ground.” Props to Mean Creek for slaying Harpoonfest this past weekend. I hope to party with them when the dust settles.
