[goth100] Now I'm Feeling Gothified: the Spotify playlist + WFNX goth special, 10.31.11
It's late October, and while the bros at Wonder Bar were busy bumping club mixes of Selena Gomez, we were in the laboratory stitching together a more seasonal soundtrack to the spookiest time of the year. The result? The GREATEST GOTH SONGS OF ALL TIME, featuring 100 atmospheric tracks drenched in gloomy glory and jet-black angst.
PETER MURPHY, who shows up on the list six times (including the top spot for Bauhaus' anthemic "Bela Lugosi's Dead"), gave us an exclusive interview in this week's issue, and he reconnects with us on Halloween night when he phones into WFNX (101.7 fm/ wfnx.net).
From 8 to midnight -- that good ol' witching hour -- Phoenix music editor Michael Marotta and contributor Michael Christopher crash the studio and spin the goth-rock hits and near misses from the #goth100, and Murphy himself, a/k/a the "Godfather of Goth," is slated to phone in a cameo around 10pm. It's one creep-show you really don't want to miss, and it doesn't get more Halloween than that.
To help set the mood, we've also put together a chilling Spotify playlist to commemorate the occasion, featuring 100 songs about love and death and Transylvanian concubines, most of which hover somewhere between dark and jangly post-punk, nightmarish electro-pop, and mind-bending industrial weirdness.
So check out our scientifically-calculated countdown (compiled by a crack team of lost souls) and listen along on Spotify, because it's 2011 goddamn-it, and that's what we do.
