Goth may be a solitary lifestyle, but in order to properly compile The Boston Phoenix's 100 Gothic Rock Songs of All Time, we made sure to enlist the expertise of three of our city's underground nightlife luminaries: CHRIS EWEN, JAMES CUDDYER, and PATRICK FITZGERALD. We convened here at the Phoenix, had some dinner, and hashed out the Top 100 over several hours of debate and pizza (not very goth).
So while there’s a full slate of parties to bring the bats back to the Boston bell tower this weekend, here’s what our three Goth Summit panelists have to offer the dark masses as we count down to Halloween:
PATRICK FITZGERALD’S XMORTIS | Friday, October 28
It’s Devil’s Night at XMortis, the Friday night dark dance soiree at T. T. The Bear’s in Cambridge. DJs Chris Ewen and Static spin goth and industrial, Black Cat Burlesque performs, and Terri spikes the cider in the Lounge for all her beautifully damaged children. The dress code paints the vulgar picture: “Goth, Fetish, Industrial, Rivet, Devil Girl, Demon Boy, Succubus, Incubus, Bloody Burlesque, creative attire encouraged. MINIMUM ALL BLACK!”

CHRIS EWEN’S HEROES | Saturday, October 29
Scary monsters and super creeps unite at Ewen’s wildly successful new-wave and electro dance party. The closest thing Cambridge — or anywhere else — has to the return of ManRay, Ewen’s party features incomparable underground ’80s mixes. Tonight welcomes Heroes annual costume contest, a Peter Murphy ticket giveaway, and a Pretty Thoughts fashion show featuring unique latex pieces by designer Erica Templeman. |

JAMES CUDDYER’S CEREMONY 15TH ANNIVERSARY | Monday the 31st |
Fifteen years is a remarkable feat for any dance party, and the Ceremony crew have been holding down the darker side of discotheque in the unlikeliest of places: Monday nights in the vastly underrated back room of An Tua Nua on Beacon Street. DJs Static, Black/Mail, and guest mixer Mighty Mike Saga hold down the goth/industrial/darkwave sounds, and there are VNV Nation ticket giveaways and a costume contest. After all, it’s still Halloween night.
