The Phoenix + Bowery Boston present We Are Augustines + Leisure, tonight @ Great Scott [free mp3 + tix]
Last week we chronicled the improbable rise of WE ARE AUGUSTINES, a Brooklyn-based rock band that formed out of the tragic and fiery ashes of the late, great Pela. Tonight the Boston Phoenix teams up with Bowery Boston in bringing the Augustines to Great Scott in Allston, a night of celebration, triumph, and really great fucking music. To mark the return of Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson to Boston as We Are Augustines (joined on drums by Rob Allen), we're giving away "Book of James," a single off their debut record, Rise Ye Sunken Ships, for free below. It's a passionate letter of forgiveness written by McCarthy to his departed brother, Jim.
If you wish to be guest listed for the show tonight, which promises to be one of the better of the season, email the answer to this question to me, at michael[a]phx.com, by 3pm today, and I'll select a winner at random to add to the list +1: In which Brooklyn neighborhood did I conduct my interview with We Are Augustines earlier this month? (Hint: the answer is in the article. And no, it wasn't Williamsburg. These kids got class.)
See you tonight. And in the meantime, download "Book Of James"...and go watch every Pela video on YouTube. Best band.
