Boston Phoenix Names Top 100 Britpop Anthems: List Debuts on Radio, Print, Web, and Spotify
Our list of the Top 100 Britpop Anthems of the '90s is now on the streets, in the cloud, and on the airwaves. If you can't pick up an issue, we've given you the entire list online. What's that? You don't agree with it? We would've never guessed. And we defintely wouldn't want you to go voting every song on the list up or down and completely re-arranging the thing. But we knew you would anyway, so go ahead and check out our clickbait Britpop song-ranking game here.
We've also got a blow-by-blow Britpop timeline, a look at the '80s pre-history of the phenomenon, and the answer to the question, "Where are they now?" For a few of the people on this list -- and we're not naming names -- that answer will include "calling into a certain Boston radio station tonight."
Yessssss: beginning tonight at 7 p.m. and going into the wee hours, Boston Phoenix music editor Michael Marotta and WFNX program director Paul Driscoll will be hosting a BRITPOP MARATHON on WFNX 101.7 FM, playing the shit out of a bunch of the songs from our list, fielding calls from Britpop stars (*cough* Richard Ashcroft *cough*), and generally blowing up the spot. If you're out of range of the signal, you can listen along live at WFNX.com. We'll be taking requests via Twitter and Facebook and whatnot.
And finally, for our early-adopting music nerds, we've launched a massive Spotify Britpop playlist for your listening pleasure. Cue it up while you're inhaling Michael Christopher's #longreads interview with Liam Gallagher.
