Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis to debut two new bands -- one with Thurston Moore and Andrew W.K. -- at SXSW
J MASCIS has gone supergroup crazy.
The Dinosaur Jr. frontman is taking his latest semi-allstar band (or at least featuring-members-of band) SWEET APPLE to SXSW for that group's first live shows ever. It features his Witch co-conspirator Dave Sweetapple, plus half of Cleveland garage-rock legends COBRA VERDE. If you haven't heard it, here: download some new shit.

But we're most stoked about the latest incarnation of THURSTON MOORE's batshit-insane punk supergroup Society's Ills, now renamed DEMOLISHED THOUGHTS. The lineup? Thurston singing, Mascis and Gumball's Don Fleming on guitar, Andrew W.K. on bass, and Awesome Color's Awesome Allison on drums.
We expect total insanity. The good ship Boston Phoenix sails for SXSW this Tuesday. This week in the fishwrap, music editor Michael Brodeur runs down 10 bands we're looking forward to seeing in Austin (who also happen to be playing Boston in the next couple weeks.) You'll be able to follow our up-to-the-minute coverage at thephoenix.com/sxsw, or keep your HootSuite peeled to @bostonphoenix and #bostonsxsw on Twitter.
