We assume folks are web-ripping this as we speak, but for the time being the only place you can hear the highly anticipated Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse/David Lynch all-star collabo Dark Night of the Soul is at NPR. Supposedly this thing is coming out in a limited edition of 5000,
packaged with a hardback book of Lynch's photography. And there's no
plans to put it on iTunes.
We'd be lying if this was the best album we'd heard ever, or even this week. But it's the only album you're ever gonna hear with A FUCKING AUTOTUNED DAVID LYNCH ON IT. Next to that, the guest spots by Iggy Pop, Frank Black, Julian Casablancas, Jason Lytle, and that guy from Super Furry Animals are just kind of . . . y'know, guest-starrish.
We're still wrapping our heads around what we're hearing, but there really are two David Lynch-sung (auto)tunes on this album. They're both off-the-charts weird. Almost as weird as David Lynch's batshit-crazycampaign to bring about world peace through transcendental meditation. And future generations may rank them up there with such comedy classics as autotune the news or I'm on a boat.
Sacrilege? Genius?
