'Tis the Rocktober season, and the live music circuit is abuzz with quality shows, so let's dive in. On FRIDAY (the 5th), Nick-a-Nee's in the Jewelry District is the place to be when singer/six-string icon MARK CUTLER performs (401.861.7290), and at Firehouse 13 (401.270.1801) it's an all-ages punk throwdown with LOWLIFE, REASON TO FIGHT, TENEBRAE, P.O.W., YELLOW STITCHES, and THE CASUALTIES. On SATURDAY (the 6th), 990WBOB.com's BOOBSTOCK bash is at the PVD Social Club at 8 pm. The annual fundraiser benefits breast cancer awareness and has a stellar lineup including TORN SHORTS, SIENNA, THE CAN'T NOTS, as well as the final appearance by hard-rock quartet KANERKO. Admission is $6 at the door. Also on Saturday: folk legend RAMBLIN' JACK ELLIOT visits Common Fence Music in Portsmouth (401.683.5085); the Spot Underground (401.383.7133) is relocating and the final show at the current Elbow St location should be a doozy with Latin-funk headliners SANTA MAMBA, celebrating a long-awaited CD release. And I'm personally stoked for a show at Machines With Magnets in Pawtucket (401.475.2655), with CT's MOUNTAIN MOVERS teaming with ATLANTIC THRILLS, plus a revamped DETROIT REBELLION lineup, as founder Jeff Toste has recruited Makeupbreakup drummer Mikey Lams; their new single, "Fork In the Road," is a killer introduction (we'll be running a full Detroit Rebellion feature here soon). No plans for MONDAY (the 8th)? You do now: PROVIDENCE HONK FEST 2012 storms India Point Park starting around 3 pm, with more than a dozen national and international marching bands (from Seattle to Italy), including PVD's finest in the KICKIN' BRASS BAND, the EXTRAORDINARY RENDITION BAND, and of course the WHAT CHEER? BRIGADE. The parade starts in the park and extends down Wickenden St, South Water St, and culminates with live sets along the Providence River. Then head to the Met (401.729.1005) and catch BEST PRACTICES, THE DOWN & OUTS, and OFF WITH THEIR HEADS. On WEDNESDAY (the 10th), AS220 presents LEAMERS (Montreal) and SECRET LOVERS (Worcester), plus locals WOLF PORN and DOWNTOWN BOYS (401.831.9327), while the Met hosts DARK DARK DARK with EMILY WELLS and THE SUGAR HONEY ICED TEA ($12 at the door, 401.729.1005). And the scene at Firehouse 13 next THURSDAY (the 11th) should be absolutely bananas, with HANK SINATRA JR. and ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK opening for NYC-via-Japan lunatics PEELANDER-Z (8:30 pm, $12 door). Yikes!
