AUDIO: It's alive! Conan wastes even more minutes of our time with improv'd version of "Frankenstein"
Hometown
hero and spokesman for all that is awkward, pale, and pompadoured, Conan
O'Brien has just pushed himself a notch higher on the badass meter.
When not making jokes about masturbating manatees or vindictively breaking NBC's budget,
O'Brien has been known to dabble in a bit of that thing the kids call
rock and roll. Back in June, just prior to his much-hyped Bonaroo set,
CoCo stopped by Nashville and played a pretty exclusive show at Jack
White's Third Man Records shop. And it turns out, he also engaged in a long-form improvisational re-imagining of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, entitled "And They Call Me Mad?" (that's the cover up there). Surprising? Not thoroughly. Awesome? Most certainly.
Thanks
to Mr. Jack White and his record label, both O'Brien's musical
performance and his comedic ramblings will be available to the public
via iTunes on August 24. You can also pre-order vinyl editions of the releases online. The B-side to this spoken word gem will be a recording of Jack White
interviewing Conan O'Brien. What a twist! Get it? Because Conan used to
host ... ehh, yeah, you get it.
For a taste of what you can expect come Tuesday, find below a clip of "And They Call Me Mad?" (which appears to be Conan doing his best Victor Frankenstein), courtesy of the Third Man site.
