Prog-a-billy type BOB LORD, of DREADNAUGHT and various indie film soundtracks, will be doing some traveling. He’s been invited over to Prague to produce an orchestra recording session for MMC RECORDINGS. The ensemble is the MORAVIAN PHILHARMONIC, conducted by one Vit Micka, and while two of the works will be released by MMC, six more as a film score, the best part is that Lord will head up a fully orchestrated version of Dreadnaught’s “James Thresher Industries,” from the band’s break-out disc, The American Standard. Pretty sweet.
More of a listener than a player and still up for that learning thing? PORTLAND ADULT ED is putting forward one JOE S. HARRINGTON, author of Sonic Cool, to teach “History of Rock,” a night class that’ll start September 12 and runs two hours every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm. Harrington, who also publishes the local uber-zine Kapital Ink, is nothing if not elbow-deep in rock—everything punk to pop, though maybe a bit heavier on the punk. The “Sibilance” staff has gotten a sneak peek at the curriculum; bring your reading and listening shoes. PAINTTHETOWN, who released the full-length Just You, Me and the Highway Signs in 2006, have entered the V69 studios with SEAN SLAUGHTER (former SUPERSOUL CHALLENGER frontman and more) to record the follow-up. To be titled Have I Told You Today What’s on My Mind (PTT are fond of wordy titles, apparently), the disc will feature nine brand-new tracks and guest spots from NICK SCALA of LOST CAUSE DESPERADOS and PAT HEELAN of HORRIBLE INC. and the TAXIS. In fact, PTT liked Scala and Heelan so much they’ve created a new band, HEROES GET REMEMBERED, and hope to start recording a new project this fall after a debut show on September 21.
