On FRIDAY (the 6th) gigs of choice include a midnight set from THE WANDAS at the Spot Underground (401.383.7133), while GIRL HAGGARD headline at AS220, and head back there SATURDAY (the 7th) for an eclectic lineup including locals FALL & BOUNCE; call 401.831.9327 for info on both shows. Show o' the weekend arrives with MADONNARAMA! at Machines With Magnets, benefiting Girls Rock! RI, with more than a dozen bands performing Madonna covers all night including THE 'MERICANS, THE RICE CAKES, WHOREPAINT, THE INVISIBLE HOURS, CAVE OF COLORS (401.475.2655). Also on Saturday, Newport's SKINNY MILLIONAIRES (their Sleeping Dogs Lie is up for a BMP nom) hit the Whiskey Republic, while FUNGUS AMUNGUS host their CD release party at the Met with LEMON LIME TENNIS SHOES and the JOHNNY LINGO BAND. A busy week at the Met also includes MR. DREAM with locals BROADCASTER (Modest Mouse/Built to Spill fans should be stalking these guys) on MONDAY (the 9th), and fellow BMP noms JOE FLETCHER & THE WRONG REASONS opening for J. Roddy Walston & the Business on TUESDAY (the 10th; 401.7291005). The Newport City Limits music series has relocated to the Newport Blues Café (401.841.5510) and will begin filming new episodes on WEDNESDAY (the 11th) with WE OWN LAND, THE JAMES MONTGOMERY BAND, GARY GUITAR & THE GRINDERS, and SCARLET.
