Andre Obin
SOLO DANCER Andre Obin celebrates the release of Soft Rain at Great Scott April 27.

In the spirit of the fast-approaching baseball season, let's take a look at nine local rock shows that might offer the city more hits than Carl Crawford in April.

THE FUTURE EVERYBODY | Middle East | April 1 | Nothing says spring like sugary indie pop, and the crew fronted by Nate Rodgers (ex-Scamper) bring the saccharine-sweet with new EP It Takes Nothing. Think the Rentals on happy pills. The raucous rock of BrownBoot, featuring Jordan Valentine and Bang Camaro's Rodrigo Van Stoli, offer up their own EP, Here's the Thing, chemical reaction guaranteed. | 472 Mass Ave, Cambridge | $10 | mideastclub.com

DEATH RAY VISION | New England Hardcore & Metal Festival @ Palladium | April 15 | This is how you make an entrance. Born of Fire's Zack Wells teams up with a Masscore supergroup — three-quarters of Overcast, members of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall — for a Metalfest debut. Death Ray Vision hit Mad Oak Studios this month with Benny Grotto, so prepare for ear-shredding tunes. | 261 Main St, Worcester | $35 | metalandhardcorefestival.com

VARY LUMAR | Church | April 23 | Vary Lumar's moody, moonlit experimental rock may pay a modest debt to Radiohead, but on sophomore album The Jig Is Up (Swoon Records), the alt-rock quartet carve a darkly psychedelic rock that uses subtle electronics, even touches of drum 'n' bass, to enhance the ambiance. Introducing Kid B. | 81 Kilmarnock St, Boston | $10 | churchofboston.com

ANDRE OBIN | WZBC Spring Concert @ Great Scott | April 27 | When not busy in skygaze trio Endless Wave, Andre Obin's solo work crawls across global dance floors. This month, Dutch label Trouw releases Soft Rain, a daydream wash of electronica that hits iTunes April 1. (Endless Wave's sterling Notes from the Compound drops later in the month.) Busy times for one of Boston's sharpest musical minds. | 1222 Comm Ave, Allston | greatscottboston.com

THE ACRE | T.T. the Bear's Place | April 29 | What began as an acoustic singer-songwriter project has now blossomed into a full band, and the Acre plug even deeper into emotive alt-folk and slick Americana waters with Cerca Trova. Kingsley Flood fiddle for openers. | 10 Brookline St, Cambridge | $10 | ttthebears.com

THE BYNARS | Great Scott | May 4 | What in the name of IG-88 are a band named after a Star Trek reference doing releasing an album on Star Wars Day? Maybe the Fourth will be with the Bynars, who drop a debut album with Death Star dance parties in mind. New single "How Does It Feel To Fall in Love?" is a frenetic synth-rock romp fit for Max Rebo. | 1222 Comm Ave, Allston | greatscottboston.com
