When his father is hospitalized, an unemployed Antoine (Nicolas Cazalé) grudgingly leaves the big city and returns to the French village where he grew up. He takes over his father’s job, trucking about the countryside, selling groceries from a van. Nothing much happens here. Antoine chases a city girl, Claire (Clotilde Hesme), whom he has invited to stay with him at his parents’ house. Antoine’s brother has marital problems. Antoine’s grumpy dad gets well and resents the way Antoine runs his business. Boring! Le fils de l’épicier is a dull title, but appropriate for Eric Guirado’s competently made, unexciting movie.
