See this film: A Talking Picture at the Paramount

The title of Manoel de Oliveira's A Talking Picture (2003) is a bit ironic, considering that the 102-year-old director was making movies when they were still silent. His genius remains undimmed in this witty, provocative, somewhat allegorical tale about globalism, communication, and doom. A mother and daughter on a cruise share the captain's table with three beauties from different countries. Lively conversation ensues, but meanwhile, not all is well at sea. It stars a multi-lingual John Malkovich and Catherine Deneuve and screens Friday, September 23 @ 8:45 pm and Saturday, September 24 @ 6 pm at ArtsEmerson in the Paramount Center, 559 Washington St, Boston | $10; $7.50 seniors; $5 students | 617.824.8400 or artsemerson.org
