Singer/songwriter Aika exploded on to the music scene in 2006. Her unique blend of catchy pop melodies and lush harmonic arrangements sent her debut album “Ai-Wo” (EMI Music Japan) to the Top 10 Japanese radio charts within the first week of its release. As the daughter of legendary saxophone player Makoto Hirahara (Columbia Records Japan) and sister of platinum pop star Ayaka Hirahara (Dreamusic Japan), Aika has already created a strong buzz and great expectations among the record buyers as well as within the music industry itself. After four years of dedicated studies Aika graduated Berklee College of Music in 2004. While touring in Japan with her sister Ayaka Hirahara as a background vocalist and sax player, the fresh graduate started collaborating with music producer/arranger Nicolas Farmakalidis (Marty Friedman – former Megadeth lead guitarist, Romain Collin – Herbie Hancock,Wayne Shorter). The two produced a demo that finally landed Aika a record deal with EMI Music Japan. Aika’s highlight performances include Osaka Jo Hall (Japan) where she performed in front of more than 10,000 people, The European Jazz Festival (with Romain Collin Trio), Ayaka Hirahara’s Dream Night, JZ Brat (with special guests Marty Friedman and Ayaka Hirahara). Recently Aika started touring Japan with her band and is about to play a string of dates in the United States as well. Aika’s beautiful voice and memorable melodies are sure captivating to her audience.
